Pregnancy complications can happen to anyone

Pregnancy complications can happen during pregnancy and up to a year after giving birth. Although most pregnancies are healthy, complications can happen to anyone, so all pregnant and postpartum people and their families should learn the warning signs.

If you have any of these symptoms during or after pregnancy, contact your health care provider and get help right away. If you can’t reach your provider, go to the emergency room.

headache
Headache that won’t go away or gets worse over time
vision
Changes in your vision
swelling
Extreme swelling
of your hands or face
nausea
Severe nausea and throwing up (not like morning sickness)
stomach-pain
Severe belly pain
that doesn’t go away
bleeding
Vaginal bleeding or fluid leaking during pregnancy
not-moving
Baby’s movements stopping or slowing during pregnancy
leaking
Vaginal bleeding or fluid leaking after pregnancy
leg-swelling
Swelling, redness,
or pain
of your leg
chest-pain
Chest pain or fast-beating heart
breathing
Trouble breathing
dizziness
